Dewey Lane - Map
Dewey, a 20-year-old Marine who had just graduated from
West High and was known for his toothy grin, was on patrol
northwest of Baghdad in January 2006 when a vehicle exploded
near his convoy. The explosion came a year after Dewey was
awarded a Purple Heart for surviving a suicide bombing attack.
He was the fifth Tracy soldier to die in the war at that
time.

Marine Lance Cpl. Brandon Dewey, 20, of San Joaquin, California.
Dewey died from a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive
device while conducting combat operations in Haqlaniyah,
Iraq. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, his unit was attached
to 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).
He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st
Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton,
California. Died on January 20, 2006.

Jesse
Martinez Drive - Map
Two
years prior to Dewey, Pfc. Jesse Martinez, 20, was killed
in a vehicle accident near Mosul, Iraq, where he was stationed
as part of the Stryker Brigade Combat Team. Martinez was
a graduate of Tracy's Duncan Russell High School. He had
been scheduled to return home two weeks after the accident.

Iraq, when his vehicle rolled over as the driver tried to
avoid another vehicle. He was assigned to the 5th Battalion,
20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division,
Fort Lewis, Washington. Martinez was a graduate of Tracy's
Duncan Russell High School. . Died
on July 14, 2004.
