in a midair collision while on a mission over Philippine
Islands Mar. 9, 1945
Before
his death he completed 43 missions as an armored gunner
in the 13th
Air Force and participated in air action over the Himalayas,
Borneo, Celebes, Luzon
and the Philippines.
He was awarded the Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster and
the Purple Heart.
His wife, Doris Geheris Gray, and two-year-old daughter,
Diana Lynn, live in
Costa Mesa, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Gray,
in Santa Ana.
A graduate of Tustin Union high school in 1940, he entered
Army Air Forces service May 24, 1943. He received training
at Fresno and in Colorado, Florida and South Carolina before
departing in June, 1944, for South Pacific duty
